Boleros and affections
Choosing the best song of all time for me is very
difficult because I really like music and I am always in constant search of new
artists.
I could think of songs that remind me of my childhood
like the songs of Shania Twian, Debbie Gibson or Soraya, artists that my mom
listened to a lot. I also think of artists that I like a lot like Lady Gaga,
Jessie Ware or Cami.
But there is a song by a national artist that makes me
so nostalgic and I could say that it is one of the best boleros in history. I
speak of Cariño Malo (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Fgau0fEXnE)
by Palmenia Pizarro.
This song reminds my grandparents to always listen to
it on weekends at family lunches, listening to that broken and powerful voice
of Palmenia made your hair stand on end.
The song was written by the Peruvian composer Augusto
Polo Campos. Thanks to this song, Palmenia Pizarro became known within Chile as
well as abroad.
Palmenia has been a great influence within the
national music, currently very recognized artists such as Mon Laferte, have
said that the national singer is a great inspiration for their music. Thanks to
these artists, this style has been modernized and managed to captivate the
youngest audiences.
The bolero is a musical style that I really like and
that I feel has been present within many Chilean families. It is part of our
culture and therefore we should appreciate it much more.
